In 2004, Angela and Christian Ekeke were happy and excited recipients of two music scholarships.  Angela received a year’s worth of piano lessons from the proceeds of the Delian Music recital.  Her brother, Christian, received a year’s worth of drum lessons from the South Bay Jazz Ensemble. Both children were recommended to Delian by Internos Music as scholarship applicants.   In 2006, Delian music students Sara and Omar Pandihani, who were already enrolled as music students here at Delian Music, became the lucky recipients of a drum and guitar scholarship from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.  Chris and Christina, another brother and sister team who are also enrolled here at Delian Music, were awarded a drum and piano scholarship.

The Process:

  • Students are recommended.
  • Students write a short bio on themselves, their aspirations, and why they want to learn a musical instrument.
  •  Students write a thank you letter to their sponsors.
  • Students are reviewed every month to check their attendance and progress.
  • Students may be asked to perform in a short recital or jam session either solo or with other music students for their sponsor.
  • Students write a final essay on what they have learned at the end of the scholarship.
  • If a student misses more than three consecutive lessons or more than 5 for the entire year they are no longer in the scholarship program and the remaining lessons stay in the fund.

The Costs:

$1200.00  - guitar, bass, piano, drums, sax, clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone lessons for a year.

$1500.00 – voice lessons for a year.

$1900.00 – violin, viola or cello lessons for a year.

The books and teaching materials are paid for by the scholarship recipient unless finances prevent that also.  Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and will be held in the fund until enough is available to fund a student. Lessons can also be donated to the fund by students who have paid for lessons here at Delian but cannot continue their music education.  For more information, please contact us at 310-677-2900 or through this web site.
